Since the Royal Bank of Scotland Mortgage Centre was set up in 1995 on Greenock's revitalised waterfront, it has been seen by the financial sector as a centre of excellence for the processing and administration of all RBS mortgage applications.

"Our aim is always to be the very best, providing a great service to our customers and continually striving to improve the quality and efficiency of our process," said Head of the RBS Mortgage Centre, Craig Stewart. "We believe we achieve this through delivering excellent staff training and development, while encouraging a wonderful work ethos by making our environment a fun place to work with social events and even competitions.

"As we approach our tenth anniversary, we have come a long way since setting up operations in Greenock. Having begun with 50 employees, we are now the largest operational unit within RBS and one of the largest permanent employers in Inverclyde with more than 900 staff processing in excess of 90,000 mortgage applications each year. In 2004 alone, we employed 255 additional staff - more than 80% live within Inverclyde."

As a people focused employer, the RBS Mortgage Centre provides superb working conditions and staff benefits, award-winning flexible working patterns, substantial reward and recognition awards, as well as promotion opportunities. The level of employee satisfaction was reflected in the annual staff opinion survey at the end of 2004, where the results were the highest ever recorded.

By offering financial Vocational Qualifications, Modern Apprenticeships and banking exams, it encourages personal development. Work experience and industrial awareness days are also provided for local secondary schools and students of James Watt College and training agencies.

A keen community player, staff are well know for their tireless support of local charities funded through a wide variety of initiatives. Last year alone, they donated in excess on £12,000 for the St Mungo's language unit for autistic children in Inverclyde. This year's beneficiary is Glenburn School, Greenock.
