The team behind urban regeneration organisation, INVEST, has been busy addressing key local and national priorities, by providing advice on areas such as crime reduction and energy efficiency to thousands of Inverclyde householders as well as the local business community.
INVEST, a trading subsidiary of charity Solas Scotland, was set up seven years ago. Although a not for profit organisation, this is a successful, growing business, which has diversified its funding sources and partners from three in 2003, to over ten today.
Now employing 25 local people, many of whom are legacies of Inverclyde's industrial past, all are highly re-skilled thanks to a major training and development programme. An additional four new starts are on the cards for this year.
Pitted against major public service providers across the UK, INVEST picked up the Guardian's Public Services Award last November recognising its outstanding customer services.
"We believe the award speaks volumes for the drive and aspirations of our people and recognition of our efforts in making a valuable contribution to the regeneration of Inverclyde," said INVEST Manager, Graham McLennan. "Perhaps the most telling indicator of our success however, is the hundreds of letters we receive from satisfied customers, pointing out what a fundamental difference we have made to their lives and businesses."
INVEST has been busy developing new services built around its core competencies, including Home Energy Rating and SmartWaterTM property/security marking. The latter is being introduced in partnership with SmartWater Ltd and Strathclyde Police, backed by six-figure funding from Communities Scotland, Inverclyde Council and Inverclyde Social Inclusion Partnership.
With its long term target to reduce theft from homes and businesses by at least 35%, INVEST believes that SmartWaterTM will improve life for people across Inverclyde and eventually Scotland.
