INVERCLYDE'S BEE'S KNEES IN BUSINESS PICK UP AWARDS

Greenock Medical Aid Society, Pack-2-Solutions and the Royal Bank of Scotland Mortgage Centre have been voted the Bee's Knees 2005, beating stiff competition to take the top accolades in the Greenock Chamber of Commerce business awards initiative. Aimed at recognising and rewarding business talent in Inverclyde, each was a winner in one of three categories and picked up a cheque for £1,000 and a unique Bee's Knees trophy at the awards dinner in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock.

Picking up the Bee's Knees Award for Best Developed Business was the Royal Bank of Scotland Mortgage Centre. Best Emerging Entrepreneur went to Pack-2-Solutions and the Service to Community award went to the Greenock Medical Aid Society.

Entertaining the capacity audience of 150 business men and women was guest speaker Charan Gill MBE. He is best known as the mastermind behind Europe's largest chain of Indian restaurants, Harlequin Leisure Group, which he recently sold in a multi million pound deal to his long-term business associate. Presenting the awards, he congratulated the three winners on their superb achievements.

Chamber vice president Bill Mitchell, chaired the judging panel line up of Robert Cleary, Inverclyde Council chief executive, Stuart Dixon, chief executive of Riverside Inverclyde, Charles Shaw, chairman, 5pm.co.uk and Douglas Brands, former president of Greenock Chamber.


'With so many high calibre entries once again this year, our judges found the short list selection process a real challenge with just a whisker separating all of our short listed companies,' said Bill Mitchell, Chamber vice president. 'We believe our three winners are truly outstanding. They not only demonstrate the scope of business in Inverclyde but also augur well for the future of the area as a place in which to live and do business'.

NINE LINE UP FOR BEE'S KNEES SHORT LIST

Judges have selected nine Inverclyde businesses across three categories as the short list for the Greenock Chamber of Commerce Bee's Knees Awards 2005. Winners will be announced at a special awards dinner in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock, on Friday 17 June 2005.

The short listed companies and categories are:

Bee's Knees Award for Best Developed Business:

Bee's Knees Award for Best Emerging Entrepreneur:
